Foxgloves and Hollyhocks

Foxloves
Foxgloves (Digitalis) are native plants with tall spikes of flowers, usually in shades of pink, purple and white in early summer. The flowers are often speckled inside with a contrasting colour, and attract many butterflies and insects. They are perennial if the flower spikes are cut down before they seed, otherwise if left, they will seed freely, creating natural drifts of plants. They are ideal for dappled shade, and create a beautiful, natural feel in a garden.

Hollyhocks
Hollyhocks (Alcea rosea) are classic cottage garden plants. They produce spikes of large flowers, double or single depending on the variety, in a huge array of colours over the summer. They are ideal for growing against a wall, or to add height at the back of a border. Hollyhocks are usually grown as binnials, but self-seed freely .
